Bible

Junior high students study the New International Version (NIV) or the English Standard Version (ESV) Bible from beginning to end. Using a curriculum from Christian Schools International, 6th graders study Creation through the time of King David. Our 7th graders study the reign of Solomon through the book of Nehemiah. And our 8th graders review the inter-testamental period through the book of Revelation.

Composition

During their junior high years, students focus on vocabulary, comprehension, word structure, decoding skills, and clarifying. Starting in 7th grade, students will read two novels each year as a part of their literature curriculum.

Computer Science

In 6th grade, students master keyboarding and begin the introduction to hypermedia, word processing, software, and online research. Our 7th and 8th graders progress into concepts such as drawing tools, text boxes, tables, and desktop publishing. Computer use is integrated into all aspects of curriculum.

Language Arts

We use the Holt Traditions curriculum to guide junior high students as they work with sentence components, grammar, parts of speech, and sentence structure.

Library

Our students visit the library weekly to learn about identifying types of books and locating books within a library, and they check out books to take home to help them understand responsible library use.

Literature

Students begin to learn the basics of writing. They begin by learning how to write paragraphs, develop stories, and use the research process. Then our students progress to writing poetry, letters, essays, and persuasive pieces. By 8th grade, students move on to concepts such as prewriting, editing, rewriting, and publishing. We extensively use computers and electronic media to cover these topics.

Math

Students in grades 6-8 review whole numbers, patterns, decimals, fractions, geometry, measurement, graphing, and algebra.

Music

Our 6th graders study music reading skills in choir and have the opportunity to participate in intermediate band. 7th and 8th grade students participate in choir and can choose to participate in advanced band.

Physical Education

Students participate in physical education for forty minutes, two to three times a week.

Science

Junior high students use the Dimensions Science Curriculum to cover units on the nature of science, earth and space science, physical science, and life science.

Social Studies

Our 6th and 7th graders study geography and current events as well as the ancient world, medieval times, and the history of other countries. Our 8th graders focus on US history and current events.

Spelling & Vocabulary

Junior high students work on weekly spelling tests and also learn vocabulary word definitions from 6th through 8th grade.
