Middle schoolers use the Interactive Science Curriculum to cover units on the nature of science, earth and space science, physical science and life science.

Our students visit the library weekly to learn about identifying types of books, how to locate books within a library and to check out books to take home to help them understand responsible library use.

Students begin to learn the basics of writing. They begin by learning how to write paragraphs, stories and the research process. Then our students progress to writing poetry, letters, a variety of essays and persuasive pieces. By 8th grade, students move to concepts such as pre writing, editing, rewriting and publishing. We extensively use computers and electronic media to cover these topics.

Spelling & Vocabulary

Middle schoolers continue work on weekly spelling tests and also learn word definitions.

During their middle school years, students focus on vocabulary, comprehension, word structure, decoding skills and clarifying. Starting in 7th grade, students will read two novels each year as a part of their literature curriculum.

Social Studies

Our 6th and 7th graders study geography as well as topics such as the ancient world, medieval times, and history of other countries as well as current events. Our 8th graders focus on U.S. history and current events.

Language Arts

We use the Holt Traditions curriculum to guide middle schoolers as they work with sentence components, grammar, parts of speech and sentence structure.

Students in grades 6th-8th review whole numbers, patterns, decimals, factions, geometry, measurement, graphing and algebra.

Physical Education

Students participate in physical education 40 minutes, two to three times a week.
